Today the major directions of scientific activities of the Institute of Biological Problems of the North include:
· study of functioning, organization principles and adaptive strategies of the northern populations, communities and ecosystems; · study of biodiversity on the territory of the North-East of Asia; · development of scientific principles of northern biological resources conservation, reproduction and rational use. The scientific staff of the institute comprises more than 60 researchers including 1 Corresponding Member of Russian Academy of Science, 9 Dr. of Science and 35 Cand. of Science. Institute research team increases annually owing to the graduates of the Department of Natural Science (Northern International University), which was founded on the basis of the Institute of Biological Problems of the North. The Institute also provides possibilities for post graduate studies in 7 specialties in the field of Biology.
