Kondratyev

Kondratyev Alexander Vladimirovich, a Candidate of Biology (PhD), was born in 1961. He graduated with distinction from Biology and Soil Science Department of Leningrad State University with a specialization in Zoology in 1983. From 1983 to 1995 he worked in IBPN FEB RAS, Magadan, as a senior technical assistant, later as an engineer, a junior researcher and a senior researcher in the Laboratory of Ornithology, and in 1995-1998 as a Deputy Director for Science in IBPN FEB RAS. In 1998-2011 he was a Head of the Laboratory of Vertebrate Zoology in Subdepartment of Vertebrate Zoology, Department of Biology and Soil Science, St. Petersburg State University. In 2011 he returned to IBPN FEB RAS as a leading researcher of the Laboratory of Ornithology.
From 2006 to 2011 he also had a second job of Associate Professor of Department of Vertebrate Zoology of St. Petersburg State University. He is an author of series of bachelor’s and master’s Courses of lectures in Ecology and Zoology. During his work in St. Petersburg State University Alexander Vladimirovich ran one Bachelor and two Master dissertation works, and, besides, he was a research supervisor of one post-graduate student.
In 2007 he became an Associate Professor with a specialization in Zoology. In 2010 under Kondratyev’s guidance a Candidate thesis (PhD) was successfully defended by Zainagutdinova E.M., a post-graduate student.
In 1993 he successfully defended a Candidate Thesis (PhD) Comparative analysis of strategies of forage acquisition at the sea ducks (tribes: Aythyini, Mergini) in view of phylogeny of group.
His academic interests include biology of anseriformes, fauna and populations of birds from open landscapes, scientifically-based assessment and protection of the key ornithological territories and wetlands, which are important for population support of waterfouls, study of migration relationships of the Arctic birds.
Kondratyev A.V. is a coordinator and administrator of a series of international projects on the study of nesting biology and migration relations of birds in different sectors of the Russian Arctic.
Study results of Kondratyev A.V. are represented on Russian and international conferences, including six plenary reports.
He is a member of editorial board of Kazarka (annual bulletin of the working group on anseriformes).
Kondratyev A.V. is an author of 124 research papers and co-author of 6 multi-author monographs.
